Rhythm and Meter in Writing

Hello Students :)

How are you? I hope that you are well. I want to try a new exercise with you. Really good writers think about the way their words will sound when they are writing. At the level we are at we may not be able to achieve what we want exactly, but you are good writers and should start to think about all the tricks the best writers use.

The oldest forms of story telling were verbal. The printed word was very limited in it's diffusion in the ancient world. So word of mouth was the only way to broadcast a story. So the ancient stories followed strict rules of rhythm and meter. Meters are specific rhythms. The ancient texts of the Odessey, Iliad, and the Aeneid all follow the meter very closely, as well as the works of Shakespeare and Cervantes.
